Pride & Prejudice
Jonah 1:1-3

I. GOD’S FREEDOM TO CALL AND COMMISSION ANYONE

    A. God Speaks
    B. God Commands

II. JONAH’S RESPONSE TO GOD’S COMMANDS

    A. Jonah Runs
    B. Jonah Rebels

III. WHAT PRIDE AND PREJUDICE DO TO OUR HEARTS:

Our pride and prejudice . . .

  • Seek to usurp God’s authority over our lives
  • Lead us to believe that our lives belong to us alone
  • Convince us that we deserve God’s mercy, but others shouldn’t even have a chance to repent
  • Persuade us to believe that God should judge others the way that we have already judged them
  • Assure us that God is wrong, we are right, and He should do things our way
  • Blind us to think that God really doesn’t care if I disobey Him, but He really cares if others that I hate disobey Him
  • Lie to us by telling us that God can’t use prideful or prejudiced people to accomplish his purposes
